getting to know me...

I have been in the interior design world for nearly 20 years, running my own interior design business for ten of those years.  I am a mum to 3 gorgeous kids; Noah (12), Hugo (10) and Sienna (dolly bird) (8).

I married my childhood sweetheart Frankie.  I met him when I was in year 12 at boarding school, on Coogee beach and the rest is history.  We have been together for 24 years - not without its ups and downs but he is my soul mate, my rock and I guess we have grown up together you could say.

I grew up in country NSW in a little town called Canowindra.  My dad was a sheep farmer and grew lucerne hay. My gorgeous mum was a hairdresser by trade but for the first 13 years of my life stayed at home to look after us kids which I will always cherish. After that she then went back to work 2 days a week just to help dad as times were tough on the land.

I am one of four children – I have two sisters and a brother. I loved my childhood and growing up in the country which is where I go every chance I get.  It is the place I still call ‘home’ my safest place in the world.  My kids and Frankie also love it which is great.  It is where I retreat when I need some time out from our busy city lives.

IT ALL STARTED WHEN...

Velvet Style began because sadly in July 2015 I lost my beautiful dad.  He was my first love, best friend, business mentor and just the best dad and ‘Poppo’ in the whole world.  I would tell people he was just the best ‘girl dad’.  Some days I would speak to him 3 times a day and not a day would go by that he would not speak to all his kids and his six grandkids.

He died of AML –Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and had been fighting it for 10 years.  His journey and fight was quite incredible and he was known as the miracle man at 2 major hospitals in Sydney.  He was the only man to beat this awful disease 3 times.

I had decided to write a book about his journey and that of my family to help with my grieving process and hopefully help other families who are going through something similar.   I happened to mention this to a good friend of mine Mel,.  She said that will take too long – that I had so much worth sharing and that I should start a blog now!  She suggested a lifestyle blog so I could also include my world of interiors which I love, as well as my family, fashion, fitness and life so that’s what I decided to do.  “Velvet Style” was born.

Velvet Style the Name...

As a Designer I am always playing with fabrics.  I was in the office putting a scheme together for a client and had a piece of gorgeous navy velvet in my hand.  As you know velvet always changes, colour, texture, and look every which way you move it and I thought that is just like life.  Our life changes every day, month, year - even by the minute.  We don’t know where our life or journey will take us.  So I thought it was perfect for my lifestyle blog – “Velvet Style” it is!!

I hope you enjoy my stories, crazy family life and world of interiors and style.  Please feel free to contact me anytime as I would love to hear from you.
